RLA Testing of Transformers: Online and Off Testing

At Excellent Diagnostic and Research Agency, we provide comprehensive Residual Life Assessment (RLA) testing services to evaluate and enhance the reliability and performance of transformers. Our specialized services include both online and offline testing, utilizing advanced diagnostic techniques to ensure precise results and actionable insights.

Online Testing Services
Our online testing methods are designed to assess transformer health without interrupting operations, offering real-time insights into potential issues.

  1. Partial Discharge Testing
    • Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Method
    • Acoustic Method
This test detects and localizes partial discharges within the transformer, providing critical information about insulation health.
  2. Thermography
    • Infrared thermographic analysis identifies hotspots and temperature anomalies, ensuring early detection of overheating issues.
  3. Noise and Vibration Measurement
    • Monitoring transformer noise and vibrations helps detect mechanical or operational anomalies.
  4. Transformer Oil Testing
    • Routine Testing as per IS 1866 standards.
    • Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) to identify gas generation patterns indicating potential faults.
    • Furan Content Analysis to assess paper insulation degradation and transformer aging.
Off line Testing Services
  1. Capacitance & Tan Delta Measurement
    • Assessment of bushings and windings to detect insulation aging and degradation.
  2. Turn Ratio Testing
    • Validation of turn ratios across all taps to ensure accurate voltage transformation.
  3. Vector Group Test
    • Verification of phase displacement and polarity consistency.
  4. Short Circuit Impedance Test
    • Measurement of impedance to identify winding deformation or damage.
  5. Magnetizing Current Test
    • Evaluation of current requirements on each tap to detect core issues.
  6. Magnetic Balance Test
    • Identification of magnetic asymmetry in the transformer core.
  7. Winding Resistance Measurement
    • Resistance testing across all taps to ensure conductor integrity and detect faults.
  8. Insulation Resistance (IR) and Polarization Index (PI) Testing
    • Insulation health analysis to determine long-term performance reliability.
  9. Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)
    • Mechanical assessment of windings and core for deformation or displacement.
  10. Frequency Response on Stray Loss Test (FRSL)
    • Evaluation of stray losses to assess energy efficiency and potential hot spots.
  11. Leakage Reactance & Impedance Measurement
    • Measurement of reactance and impedance to identify winding issues.
  12. Dynamic Contact Resistance Test
    • Performance check of the On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) to ensure operational reliability.
  13. Moisture Assessment & Dielectric Analysis
    • Moisture content analysis and Frequency Domain Spectroscopy (FDS) to evaluate winding insulation condition.

The Erection & Commissioning Service is conceptually used in the installation process of several industrial plants. We are backed by a team of adroit personnel who render these services in the most efficient way within the postulated time frame. Also, these services are greatly appreciated by our patrons for their nimbleness. We offer ETC services for Transformer/Reactor/CT/PT/CVT having various ratings. We have rich domain expertise and dedicated manpower for the erection of small to higher rating Transformers. We follow all the safety standards with the consent of the customer to avoid any minor or major incidents. After the completion of ETC work, a certificate will be provided ensuring the installations are done perfectly.

Testing is extremely essential for preventive as well as breakdown maintenance. Excellent Diagnostic and Research Agency has a dedicated testing team furnished with advanced instruments, which conducts tests with accuracy, reliability, and repeatability. The teams are well trained and equipped to thoroughly and reliably test all kinds of installations in a switchyard and transmission lines.

The Entire Process

Pre-erection activities are completed before starting erection

Erection of built-in parts of the plant

Erection of the main operating components

  1. Erection is similar to installation however erection is to install something piece by piece that rises up.
  2. Commissioning is bringing the installed thing into running as per the required professional standards.
  3. Testing means to confirm the installed device is running with complete functionality and it is delivering the required output.
Pre-erection activities
  • Preparation of a plan for the implementation of erection work and sequence of various activities
  • Site storage planning consists of open, locked, semi-closed storage and road construction, connection for plant distribution to assembly field.
  • Erection of temporary structures, living quarters needed to work smoothly and quickly on the site.
  • Building power, water, compressed air system for erection operations. DG sets of sufficient capacity to be retained when a power failure occurs.
  • Arrangement of lighting of erection site and nearby area.
  • Ensure the timely supply of equipment and materials needed for the continuation of erection work in conjunction with charts and schedules.
  • Providing installation plans for hoisting, carrying systems, instruments, and equipment as well as coordinating the transfer of material to the site. The content will be removed and transferred to a pre-identified position in the unloading port.
  • Arrangement of protective measures to protect workers and machinery during the storage, transport, and deployment of various plant components.
  • In the first point, a well-coordinated overall plan is planned for the development of civil works and activities related to the building of hydro-mechanical and hydro-generating systems.

  • A PERT / CPM shall be established to track current operations and sensitive activities in order to prevent any interruption in the plan.

  • The number of building works to be finished by months in keeping with the project’s total planned construction timetable.

  • Big activity-wise PERTs are established displaying sequence and length of activities matching delivery schedule and civil building activities to track erection works in charge. This should provide a timeline and length as per the total timetable of all essential and concurrent tasks to complete the erection work.
